The Obama Half-Brother Bullshit

By User Imageadmin on Aug. 25, 2008.

Obama and Half-BrotherI found it desturbing that the Chicago Sun-Times would choose to print the article entited, Obama’s half-brother to Vanity Fair: ‘No one knows I exist.’ For one, the title is factually untrue.  Even the article notes this.  But you wouldn’t know that from the title.  If you just scan the title, you might be left thinking that this is some unknown, bastard child.  Or you might think that Obama is a bastard for not taking care of his sibling in trouble.  Neither is true.

The truth is Obama knows about his half-brother.  In fact, he visited him at least twice and wrote about him in his book.  Obama’s path to the Presidency was not some textbook rise.  Instead, it has take some rather twisted paths.  While not traditional, Obama does do one thing.  He shows that the statement made to young children that they can one day grow up to be President is not so far fetched as we might think.  Whether he is elected or not, Obama worked for what he has.

Which begs the next question:  Are we responsible for our brothers and sisters?  And if so, how far does that go?  I’d like to hear your thoughts.  I don’t lean one way or another.  Except to the process.  The Chicago Sun-Times making the lifestyle of someone’s distant brother a political point is just bullshit!

Remote Kill Switch On I-Phone Is Bullshit!

By User Imageadmin on Aug. 18, 2008.

10-15-07-iphone Remote Kill Switch On I-Phone Is Bullshit!

Even though you bought that new iPhone, the life in your pocket appliance isn’t all yours after all.  Apple has its finger on the button that could wipe it out in a blink.  Apparently Apple put a secret URL in the operating system that will allow them to remove applications.

Yes, we can see where this would be useful.  If they find that an application is doing something it shouldn’t, they can help all of their users by removing the application from everyone’s iphone.  But didn’t we buy these applications from the Apple application store to begin with?  What about the testing?  Hmmm?

The main point here: We bought the phone.  Its ours!  You’re already telling us who we have to use for a phone service.  And now you’re telling us what applications we can have? How about just testing the applications before you offer them to the public?  I call bullshit!

Blue Laws Are Bullshit!

By User Imageadmin on Aug. 17, 2008.

Beer Store

Blue Laws are laws that prevent stores from selling beer, wine or liquor on Sundays.  These antiquated laws have been on the books in many jurisdictions for decades.  And the citizens in these counties and towns, primarily in the Southeast, just go about life dealing with this.

Well, it is total bullshit!  All it does is make people plan around it.  You shop for your alcohol needs the day before.  Why?

These laws were written back when we as a country let religion override basic rights.  If you think we’ve evolved from that age, you are mistaken.  We still have these legacy items hanging over us and that is bullshit!

If You Care About Who Fathered Rielle Hunter’s Child

By User Imageadmin on Aug. 12, 2008.

rielle hunterSo, Rielle Hunter won’t get a paternity test done and wants people to respect her privacy.  Where does she think she is?  If you mess around with a married Senator, one with higher political aspirations, people are going to demand to know.  Was he good?

Really.  If you care about this story, then you need to re-evaluate your priorities.  Basically the story ended with a one line statement.  Senator Edwards had an affair and therefore he likely won’t be Senator Obama’s running mate.  End of story, move on.

Hypocritical Boycotts Are Bullshit

By User Imageadmin on Aug. 8, 2008.

Boycott China

Unless you’ve been under a rock for the past six months, you know that China is hosting the 2008 Olympics.  This is a historical event primarily because of the relations between China and the West.  China doesn’t want to play by our rules, but they have something we don’t, cheap labor.

Before you go throwing yourself into some kind of frenzy about all this, consider who you are and what benefits you might be deriving from this love hate relationship.  If you live in the US, you can be 100% sure that you own products produced in China.  Computers, televisions, radios, ipods/mp3 players, clothes, automobile parts, furniture, appliances, you name it, they make it.  So, it would be virtually impossible for you to avoid Chinese products.

How can you be heard?  Well, after being honest with yourself, you can start the dialog.  This can be done through blogs, via letters to your congressmen, etc.  The more this topic continues to bubble to the top, the more likely we will see cooperation from China.

China needs us as much as we need them.  This is a good thing.  People listen to friends much more so than they do enemies.  Think carrot not stick.

Rep. Peter King’s Demands Are Bullshit!

By User Imageadmin on Jul. 23, 2008.

I’m not sure if you caught this out of New York, but a series of ads promoting Islam are scheduled to run on New York subways during their holy month called Ramadan.  The example ad is very basic and nonconfrontational.  But Rep. Peter King has demanded that the New York Metropolitan Transit Authority pull them.

Why?

Because he doesn’t like the person behind them (Siraj Wahhaj, imam of a Brooklyn mosque).  This man happened to know Sheikh Omar Abdel-Rahman (the guy convicted as the mastermind behind the 1993 World Trade Center bombing).

In Rep. King’s own words:

“They are especially shameful because the ads will be running during the seventh anniversary of September 11…  The subways are considered a primary target of terrorists…I strongly believe the MTA should pull the ads.”

Are we going to start busting the chops of every person who associates with a known criminal?  If so, then all of the members of Congress are guilty.  There’s probably more on the arrest records of the congressmen than there is in Siraj Wahhaj’s mosque.  String ‘em up!

The point is this:  We wouldn’t be having this conversation if this were a Christian ad campaign.  Nobody would care who was behind it.  Part of healing is understanding.  While individuals who carried out the World Trade Center bombing and 9/11 were Muslim, it wasn’t the muslim faith that was the cause of these events.

The ads are tastefully done and are very positive.  The more we know, the better we are as a nation.  Rep. King’s demands are bullshit!

Can You Cram For A Presidential Election?

By User Imageadmin on Jul. 21, 2008.

Obama - Middle East TripWe did it in high school, we did it in college and many of us probably still do it to some extent in our day to day jobs.  What is that?  We cram.  We hit the books, burn the midnight oil as they say, to get in just enough studying to pass the exam.  For Senator Obama, that exam is a presidential election.  And he is cramming his ass off!

So, now the papers will show him with world leaders and the public will once again be duped into believing that he gets it.  Guess what?  You don’t get anything with one road show.  It takes years and years of exposure to world events before you even have a clue what questions to ask.

I’d like to say that he’s wasting his time, but I know better.  This will work for the sole reason that the general public isn’t smart enough to call him on it.  And, he is saying exactly what Joe Q. Public wants to hear.

So, I guess you can cram for the presidency and pass.  And that is the most dangerous kind of bullshit there is.

Is Al Gore’s Chicken Little Routine Bullshit?

By User Imageadmin on Jul. 18, 2008.

We all know Al Gore as the ex-VP (failed presidential candidate) who has the charisma of a pet rock.  The guy who claimed to have invented the Internet.  And the green house gas guru who won a Nobel Prize  for being the doomsayer until the scientific community and governments got their crap together.  Kinda batting one for three there, which is good enough for the major league, so I guess I shouldn’t call him out on this one.

Today I log on to CNN Online to find that he has taken on a new cross (I mean cause), the energy crisis.  Here is the article (CNN - Energy Crisis Threatens US Survival). It is a quick read, so bop on over and check it out, we’ll wait for ya…

Gore - The End Is Near

Maybe because it took us too long to listen to him last time, he decided he needed a great hook.  How about the fall of America?  Hmmm?

No doubt the cost of energy is going to force some changes in the American lifestyle in the short term.  But to call for a fall of #1 is really a stretch for me.  We could do without another season of American Idol, but don’t you dare mess with Monday Night Football or WWE Raw.  We like our lifestyles just they way they are and we’re willing and able to make some compromises, but boom, all gone?

Mr. Gore is calling for us to move completely to renewable energy in 10 years.  Currently, renewable energy makes up a very small fraction of our supply.  whether it is nuclear plants, wind farms, or solar, establishing an adequate source of renewable energy is going to take a lot longer than that.

Here’s the deal.  There isn’t just one answer to this problem.  To make it so black and white is bullshit!  We need to transition, over an extended period of time.  That means we need to do both.  Drill more and put money into new technologies.  And people have to get off their high horse about certain aspects of the “plan”.  We need nuclear energy to play a big part in this transition and we need to allow the oil and gas companies to build and expand their refineries.

Many of the most brilliant people in the world life here.  They’re not about to give up their 1st world lives over something like this.  Resources will be allocated.  We will adapt, create, solve, build and deploy the technologies and plants needed to move forward.

The doomsayer comments are bullshit!  If you think we need extremists views to draw the mainstream to the path, then so be it.  But for the most part, you’ll look like an ass while you’re doing it.  I prefer the more reasonable touch.  But that’s just me.

More Political Hate Debate Bullshit!

By User Imageadmin on Jul. 14, 2008.

I strongly questioned whether I would post this but figured that bullshit takes all shapes, sizes, and smells. My apologies to Senator Obama and his wife for even reprinting the picture.

New Yorker CoverLet that image sink in for a while…

The New Yorker Magazine says it is using this image as a lead in for an article about hate and politics. To that end, they hit it on the head. Commissioning and publishing this picture was hateful.

So, lets cut through the bullshit!

They are using this cover to sell more magazines. They could have used a picture/drawing of Senator Obama with his family, showing a positive light on a family man. The selling point would be the title and the article itself (novel concept, eh?). But that wouldn’t sell as many magazines.

Unfortunately, I’m afraid the New Yorker management and editorial staff actually believe their message will be heard. Yes, the worst is true. They believe their own bullshit!

Is Race In America Bullshit?

By User Imageadmin on Jul. 2, 2008.

Yes, we know, Barak Obama is the first black candidate to get nominated by his party. And yes, he may actually be elected president and be our first “black” president. Does his being black matter? Unfortunately, it appears the answer is yes.

Once side of the argument doesn’t want him elected because he’s black. Take this article from the Dallas News - Stick A Pin In It. Where at the Texas Republican Convention, these were available:

Obama Pin

I’m sure you’ve heard similar jabs regarding his race.

I won’t even go into the whole Muslim tie in (a t-shirt at the same convention):

Obama-Osama

The other side of the argument goes along the lines of the healing that will take place when he’s elected. How this will show young black men they can be anybody they want to be. But is that a good reason to elect him?

Stick to the policies, and don’t fall for the race bullshit. Vote for the candidate that best aligns with your principles and morals. Until we look past race as a differentiator, we are destined to tread into the racist bullshit of the past. Its time to move on!
